2023 Impact Report

YMCA Future Roots mobile

In 2023, we launched two digital learning centers in collaboration with local and national partners to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning, support workforce development, and provide access to digital skills-building for all. expanding opportunity

This report reflects our progress, aspirations, and values—as we lead reinvestment in Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods—equitably, effectively, and efficiently. All of this work is to ensure that we foster neighborhoods of opportunity and social mobility, in service of those most at risk of being systemically isolated and removed from economic opportunities.

BUILDING CAPACITY & INTEGRATING EQUITY

Equity is the very foundation of everything we do. We center our work and investments to foster a more just, fair, and inclusive society in which all can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. Likewise, we aim to increase individual, organizational, and community capacity by building connections across our programs and with external partners. We tackle problems from all angles by bringing together financial, human, social, and intellectual assets in all of our work.

REVITALIZING NEIGHBORHOODS

Our approach to neighborhood revitalization work is centered around co-creating resident-focused solutions that impact affordable housing, small businesses, and placemaking efforts. We believe genuine revitalization only occurs when both a geographic place and its people see positive change. We provide resources including: funding, technical assistance, capacity building expertise, and connections to experienced professionals to ensure that community developers and business owners can forge long-term outcomes designed to benefit all residents and consider the full community.

FOSTERING ECONOMIC MOBILITY

Featuring our Youth Banking Initiative, bank representatives with high schoolers who have just opened bank accounts.

Our commitment to economic mobility and wealth-building programs is driven by an evolving landscape that demands a diverse skill set and financial knowledge. We play a pivotal role in providing the building blocks to mobility and wealth – skills and expertise leading to better employment; opportunities for asset development; access to higher education, investing, and retirement planning.

expanding resources

2023 was a year of implementation and impact. We strengthened our programs from the inside out and built upon long-term partnerships to make progress towards our north star goal of moving 100,000 low-income Pittsburghers up the socio-economic ladder.
