a letter from leadership
As we reflect on the past year—and the first decade of our work—we’re reminded that real change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes vision, consistency, collaboration, and deep belief in the people who call our neighborhoods home. At Neighborhood Allies, we’ve been proud to stand with residents, community leaders, and partners to do just that—build trust, shift systems, and create pathways to opportunity that are rooted in equity.

In 2024, we mobilized more than $5.5 million of investments into neighborhoods.
Our work leveraged an additional $12.8 million for community-driven development projects.

Over half of our yearly expenditures were paid to minority-led entities.
Over the last 10 years, we’ve made significant progress toward our mission of creating thriving, resilient, and just communities. From fostering economic mobility and investing in neighborhood development, to supporting small businesses and expanding access to mental health services, our work has been comprehensive and community centered.
In 2024, we served nearly 6,500 residents through our Economic Mobility initiatives. This includes helping over 250 people achieve tangible outcomes—like reducing debt and building savings at our Financial Empowerment Centers, and supporting more than 5,000 residents with digital access and training through our Digital Inclusion initiatives. In addition to that, through Get Online Grow Online, 31 local small businesses gained access to resources and tailored support to help them not only sustain but grow their revenue.
Through Neighborhood Capital, we invested $1.87 million in community-driven developers, delivering nearly 1,000 hours of technical assistance and advisory services and helping them leverage over $12.8 million in additional capital.
Here are a few other notable achievements:
With our RISE HIGH Grant Partnership Program, we invested $240,000 back into our communities, with 100% of organizational grantees being minority-or women-led.
Our Financial Empowerment Centers helped over 250 people achieve positive financial outcomes, like reducing debt or increasing savings.
5,107 residents gained essential digital skills through our Mobile Course, Digital Inclusion Centers and partnerships.
31 small businesses received support through Get Online Grow Online, gaining access to tailored resources and expert guidance.
1200+ community members received mental health training, education, or treatment services through our Organization-in-Residence, Steel Smiling, who is committed to ensuring every Black person in Allegheny County has at least one positive mental health experience by 2030.
We know that thriving communities must also be healthy communities. That’s why we continue to support our Organization-in-Residence, Steel Smiling, which delivered mental health training, education, and care to over 1,200 community members this year alone.
Behind every number is a story. A family achieving financial stability. A resident-led project that brings neighbors together. A local business owner gaining tools to grow. These moments—big and small—are what drive us.
None of this work would be possible without the dedication of our staff, the leadership of our board, and the support of our funders and partners. Thank you for believing in our mission and standing with us as we build what’s next.
With Gratitude,
Presley L. Gillespie, President and CEO
Sallyann Kluz, 2024 Board Chairperson
