The Equitable Development Steering Committee re-convened last week, to pledge commitments and form action teams that will work on specific policy and programmatic changes established in our results-based framework.
Mayor Peduto’s Chief of Staff, Kevin Acklin kicked off the discussion with updates and commitments from the Mayor’s Office. “This work is very important to us–we’re currently working to finalize the executive order that will support the goals associated with the definition of Equitable Development outlined in the All-In Pittsburgh report. We’re all-in when it comes to supporting initiatives that build a more equitable Pittsburgh.”
To achieve our vision of creating a positive development strategy that ensure everyone participates in and benefits from the region’s economic transformation, members of the Equitable Development Steering Committee have adopted a
results framework that focuses on five action areas:
- Raise the bar for new development
- Make all neighborhoods healthy communities of opportunity
- Expand employment and ownership opportunities
- Embed racial equity throughout Pittsburgh’s institutions and businesses
- Build community power, voice, and capacity
While the Steering Committee drives the overall strategy, Action Teams will work on specific policy and programmatic changes that support the results framework. Based on the discussion during the inaugural Steering Committee meeting, our team proposed the two action teams to start with: 1) Tenant Protections/Housing and Neighborhoods and, 2) Economic Opportunity and Entrepreneurship. Additional teams will be created to support the remainder of the results framework moving forward.
Each member of the committee self-selected which action team their effort, passion and work most aligned with and collectively discussed what it would take to have real impact in beginning to push the boundaries of equity in Pittsburgh.[metaslider id=10122]
