On Thursday, September 8th, friends and colleagues gathered at Sherwood Event Center in Wilkinsburg to celebrate the career and accomplishments of Hank Beukema, who is retiring after nearly a quarter century of work and commitment to making Pittsburgh a better place.

Hank retires, not only as the Executive Director and leader of the McCune Foundation (who has shepherded the distribution of $434 million in grants in support of education, human services, humanities and civic life since 1992), and one of the founders of the Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development (PPND), Neighborhood Allies’ predecessor, but also an advocate, strategist and perhaps most important of all, a dreamer of a better place to call home for Pittsburgers.

We came together in celebration of Hank, and the many cherished contributions he has made over the years to making Pittsburgh neighborhoods better, safer and stronger. The gathering truly showcased his impact on community development in Pittsburgh, bringing together folks that have had the opportunity and pleasure of working along side Hank throughout his career. The legacy that Hank has built was apparent in the kind words and memories shared by his colleagues and friends who came to celebrate with us.
